Help with Personal Statements

My Services

As an experienced writer, I have the knowledge and expertise to help create the optimum personal statement.  I work with students applying to both undergraduate and graduate level programs with all aspects of the writing process.   I carefully analyze and critique each personal statement, in view of your prospective program, in order to maximize your chances of gaining admission.

I offer three levels of assistance with personal statements:

1)     Brainstorming & Structuring – help with identifying the aspects of your background to emphasize, determining how to downplay any glaring problems in your application or grades, structuring the order and manner in which you will present your accomplishments, and determining the best way to make your statement attractive.

2)     Editing – review and editing for spelling, grammar, and colloquialisms.

3)     Comprehensive – assistance with brainstorming, structuring & editing of your personal statement.

Writing a Personal Statement

Writing a personal statement is both an art and a science.  Your goal is to adequately sell yourself in a succinct and interesting way that will make you stand out from the thousands of other applicants.  This is not an easy task considering that every applicant is trying to accomplish that same feat.  So how is it done?

The key to creating a high-quality personal statement is to ensure that the piece is both engaging and informative.  Like any good writing, if your personal statement does not hold the attention of your reader, it is practically useless.  Similarly, if your personal statement does not reveal why you are special, it is not informative, and is practically useless.

If creating a personal statement to fit the above description seems like a daunting task, do not fret…I am here to help! Together, we will formulate a personal statement that will stand above the rest and give you the extra advantage you deserve.  Even if you consider yourself a poor writer, I can transform your personal statement into a first-rate piece.

Experience

I began my career as a writer at a young age, excelling in creative writing and short stories.  My passion for writing and my proficiency continued to grow throughout high school and college, as I began writing more technically in pursuit of a chemical engineering degree.

In law school, I was exposed to new forums to express myself and distribute my writings.   I became an associate and regular contributor to the Case Western - Internet Law Journal, and was one of the first writers ever to comment on the legal and ethical ramifications of China’s internet censorship laws.   I also wrote several lengthy dissertations, analyzing a variety of legal issues ranging from international war crimes, to human cloning, to affirmative action.  The substance and quality of my works were recognized by several prestigious law journals, leading to a string of publications after law school.  Over the past few years, I have continued to write articles at a steady pace and have been published in numerous local publications, including Michigan State Bar newsletters and Lawyer’s Weekly.  If interested, please take a look at a few of my samples below.
